Honda has just unveiled the 2016 Civic Coupe racing livery, which Goshen and Monroe drivers can check out during the Red Bull Global Rallycross Series. An new turbocharged 2016 Civic Coupe has been created to compete in the 2016 series in partnership with Red Bull and championship-winning race team Olsbergs MSE. Racing is set to begin in Phoenix on May 21, 2016, and we can’t wait.

In partnership with Honda Performance Development (HPD), the 2016 Honda Civic Coupe that will appear at the event has been developed from a production chassis by celebrated builders and racers Olsbergs MSE (OMSE).

As you might expect, it’s really something out of the ordinary. Designed to withstand the intense pressures expected in the Red Bull Global Rallycross Series, including 70-foot table-top jumps, it can make 600 hp and blaze from 0 – 60 mph in just 1.9 seconds.

The Red Bull Global Rallycross

There are normal races, then there’s the Red Bull Global Rallycross. Tracks are designed to put cars through their paces in every way possible, with from dirt to asphalt to hairpin bends and table-top jumps.

In the words of Nick Lee, National Advertising Manager for American Honda, “We won’t encourage our customers to take 70-foot jumps out on the street, but we will use this platform to tell people about all the incredible technology and performance capabilities of our new Civic Coupe.”

For an event like this, and with that kind of power to command, you want capable people sitting behind the wheel. That’s just who Team Honda got in contact with. Sebastian Eriksson of Sweden, and Joni Wiman of Finland have both made their mark on the series, and will now lead the Honda team.

This marks the newest venture of Honda into America’s professional and grassroots auto racing programs. They’ve also supported the Verizon IndyCar Series, WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, Pirelli World Challenge, and United States F4 Championship. We can’t wait to see what happens next.

When Honda unveiled the 2016 Civic Coupe racing livery, we knew we were in for something special. Of course, even the production model is a vehicle to write home about, and you can take it for a test-drive at Middletown Honda. Just don’t try any seventy-foot jumps!
