The Honda Civic Breaks a 13-Year-Old Sales Record!
Nobody’s perfect, but you can get pretty close. And it’s that “close to perfect” design that has made the Honda Civic one of the most popular cars around Middletown and Newburgh for over 30 years. And as the records show, it keeps getting more and more popular.
This July, the Civic sold over 141,000 units, an increase of 20.% from last July 2012, as reported by American Honda Motor, Co. This breaks a sales record established by the Civic 13-years ago. How’s that for improvement?
The Civic isn’t along, though; there have been strong gains across Honda’s current line-up. The popular CR-V crossover also broke a July sales record, with sales increasing by 32.5% over last year. Both the Pilot SUV and the Ridgeline CUV saw their fifth months of double-digit sales gains, with an increase of 32.5% and 67.7% respectively.
“In July, all of our core models – Civic, Accord, Odyssey and CRV – showed double-digit gains,” said John Mendel, executive vice president of sales at American Honda. “This indicates Honda’s commitment to retail sales is resonating with consumers seeking not only fun and fuel-efficient vehicles, but also products that retain their long-term value.”
What Makes a Great Car Great?
Way back when Honda’s main expertise was building and designing successful motorcycles, the Civic was their Hail-Mary pass for their trouble auto-division. And it was successfully received, pun completely intended. As the name suggests, the Civic was meant to be a dependable car that most anyone would be able to afford.
While still maintaining this affordability, Honda has always managed to include some of the market’s most requested features. In the beginning, this included a standard AM radio, cloth seats, and carpet. Today, the 2013 models offer a bit more standard options, including;
- Bluetooth connectivity for handsfree calling and music streaming
- A rear-view camera
- Dual-zone Automatic Climate Control
