The Honda i-MID vs. the Ford Sync: Which Infotainment System Comes Out Ahead?

September 13th, 2013 by

Honda i-MID DisplayWith more and more manufacturers offering infotainment systems in their vehicles, it can be tough to decide which one is best for you. With the 2014 Accord recently being released, many drivers in the Middletown and Mechanicstown areas are comparing Honda’s new sedan to other popular options like the Ford Fusion. With as important as technology and smartphone integration is becoming for modern drivers, we wanted to give you a look at how the Honda i-MID and the Ford Sync stack up.

The i-MID Comes Standard

One pretty big difference between the Honda i-MID vs. the Ford Sync system is that Honda’s infotainment system comes standard, with the only possible change or upgrade being the available Honda Satellite-Linked Navigation System. This means that all of the following features are ready to use on the i-MID even if you opt for one of Honda’s base LX models:

  • Bluetooth handsfree calling
  • Audio streaming from a smartphone
  • Pandora Internet Radio
  • iPod integration
  • Vehicle information (trip computer, fuel economy, etc.)
  • Steering wheel-mounted i-MID controls

The Ford Sync, on the other hand, comes in four different versions, so drivers who want to take full advantage of all the available infotainment features will have to upgrade.

Crystal Clear, Customizable LCD Display

Honda’s i-MID (which stands for intelligent Multi-Information Display) is not only uniquely sized and situated in the center console specifically for each model, but it is also customizable. The Sync forces you to upgrade if you want a more colorful screen with customization options.

Easy Access to Your Music

While the Sync also allows drivers to connect their MP3 player, it doesn’t offer built-in Pandora integration. With the Honda i-MID, you can stream Pandora straight from your smartphone, control the stations from the controls on the steering wheel, and have all song and artist information displayed clearly on the dash-mounted LCD screen.

The closest the Ford Sync comes is by offering HD and/or SiriusXM Satellite Radio integration on an upgraded version of the system.
