2013 Honda Civic HybridIf you’re considering a hybrid from Honda there’s more reason to choose an efficient car than just fuel economy! Here in NY, there are incentives for driving a hybrid vehicle. Here are some of the incentives that all of us at Middletown Honda recommend you consider when you’re shopping for your next car!

Use the Carpool Lanes!

If you’re driving a hybrid vehicle, you might qualify to drive in the carpool lanes in NY! The diamond carpool lanes, or High-Occupancy Vehicle Lanes (HOV) are reserved for those vehicles with two or more occupants, busses, and motorcycles during peak travel hours. Those are from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. and from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. on the weekdays. If you’re driving one of these Honda vehicles, you can use the lanes even if you’re driving by yourself:

  • Honda Accord PHEV, model year 2014
  • Honda Civic Hybrid, model year 2006 – 2010
  • Honda FCX Clarity Fuel Cell Vehicle, model year 2008 – 2013
  • Honda Fit Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV), model years 2013 – 2014
  • Honda Insight Hybrid (automatic transmission only), model year 2005 – 2006
  • Honda Insight Hybrid, model year 2000 – 2004

Tax Credits!

While the federal tax credit for hybrids recently expired, there are a few tax credits out there for electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles! The 2014 Honda Accord Plug-in Hybrid, for example, qualifies for a $3,626 tax credit. NY also offers incentives for installing electric outlets for charging electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids, as well as discounts on sales tax for those vehicles and discounts on tolls and registration.
