Keep Cool, Locally!
You cannot stop the rising temperatures, but you can cool down in it! With the first day of summer here and a heat wave is strolling on in to start it off right everyone cannot help to think of their favorite way to cool off. For me, I instantly think of where to stop and get that big ice cream cone or where the nearest swimming hole is but for some their minds go to air-conditioned venues or what can they do at home to cool off. Here is a short list of places and ideas for everybody to find a local and easy way to cool off during these hot summer months.
First off my favorite, ice cream stands. Locally there is a family run ice cream stand right off Route 17M that you might be familiar with, Blueberry Mountain. If not you should check out this place. It’s located at 655 Route 17M, Middletown New York, 10940. Call ahead to see what kind of flavors they have for the day, but I guarantee you that you will not be disappointed with this sweet escape.
Do you like a bit of adventure when it comes to cooling down? Have you ever been down the Delaware River? If not you should check out one of the many rafting and canoeing businesses located along the Delaware River. For instance take a trip down the Delaware River with Indian Head Canoes and Rafts. Indian Head Canoes runs from Barryville, New York to Matamoras, Pennsylvania giving you miles and hours of river fun. To make a reservation or to check out what the river is all about be sure to visit their website at Indian Head Canoes.
Another cool option is to check out the latest summer blockbusters at the AMC Theaters located in the Galleria at Crystal Run in Middletown, New York. You can stay cool sitting in one of their 16 air conditioned theaters while drinking a nice cold soda and enjoying that big bucket of popcorn we all know and love. With matinee show times as well as those late night flicks you can surely find a time to slip away from the heat and be fully entertained! To check the show times and prices visit the Middletown AMC Theater’s website.
