Local Middletown Events in November/December

November 7th, 2013 by

Just because the weather is getting a little colder doesn’t mean there aren’t plenty of great things to do in Middletown and throughout Orange County. Below are just a few of the great local events we think you may be interested in over the course of the next month!

Middletown Humane Society

Rabies, Distemper, and Micro-Chipping Clinic

When: Saturday, December 7 (1:30 – 2:30 p.m.)

Where: Middletown Humane Society – 142 Bloomingburg Rd., Middletown, NY

Bring your dog or cat to the Middletown Humane Society on Saturday afternoon for rabies and distemper vaccinations, which run $15 each, or micro-chipping for $35. All rabies vaccines will be administered by Dr. Paul Johnson, and there will be a bake sale as well from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. Dogs must be on a leash and cats must be in carriers.

Online Avon Fundraiser

When: Through November 30

Throughout November, area residents can contribute to the Middletown Humane Society by placing an Avon order here. Depending on the amount of orders, between 25 – 40% of all purchases will benefit animals at the society. Be sure to enter the code “AFMTOWNHUMANE!” at checkout so that your order is counted toward the fundraiser.

Hiking in the Hudson Valley

One of our favorite things to do as the leaves start to fall is take a scenic hike in the Hudson Valley. The views from the always-beautiful trails expand as the trees and bushes shed their leaves for the winter, and the resulting views of the surrounding landscape are breathtaking.

A great resource for deciding where exactly to go and what trails to hike can be found here.

Holiday Open House at Fort Decker

When: December 1 – 2 (1:00 – 4:00 p.m.)

Where: 127 West Main St., Port Jervis, NY

Get in the holiday spirit with a festive open house at the Minisink Valley Historical Society’s Fort Decker museum. In addition to old-fashioned decorations, refreshments will also be served. This is a great opportunity to learn about the historic museum, which dates all the way back to the 18th century.

The Bear Mountain Ice Rink

When: Friday – Tuesday through March

Where: Ice Rink at Bear Mountain State Park (off Rt. 9W)

What better way to get into the holiday spirit than with ice skating right before Thanksgiving? The ice rink at Bear Mountain State Park is open for the season, with hours every day but Wednesday and Thursday (with the exception of some extended holiday hours).

Newburgh Library

Friends Holiday Book Sale

When: Friday – Sunday, November 15 – 17

Come out to Newburgh Library to do some book shopping for gifts this Christmas! The sale will feature great prices on popular bestsellers as well as specialty books.

Workshop: Creating Wreaths With Fresh Greens

When: Thursday, November 21 (6:30 – 8:00 p.m.)

Master Gardeners from Cornell Cooperative Extension of Orange County will demonstrate how to make a wreath out of basic greens you can find and collect yourself. This is a fun and creative way to get ready to decorate your home for the holidays!

We hope this helps give you some ideas for fun things to do this holiday season. Let us know in the comments if there’s anything going on around Orange County this November or December that you love to do!
