What is Lane Departure Warning?

Honda Accord Driving Rear View

One of the many Honda safety features car buyers can find across most of the lineup is Lane Departure Warning. This feature is designed to help drivers avoid possible collisions caused by drifting out of their lane. Part of the Honda Sensing® safety suite that’s standard in most new Honda models, Lane Departure Warning alerts you if you cross lane markings unintentionally. See how this feature works in our quick breakdown below!

How Does LDW Work to Protect Drivers?

Using a camera located near the rearview mirror, this feature detects lane markings. If your vehicle’s wheels move past that lane marker, you’ll be alerted via a flashing indicator and beeping noise. With certain models, you can even set the steering wheel and seat to vibrate to ensure you’re aware you’re drifting. Once you’ve been alerted of the drift, you can safely move back into your lane. This system can prevent crashes from:

  • Sideswiping
  • A rollover
  • A vehicle sticking out too far in an adjoining lane
  • And more

This feature is automatically activated when you start your Honda vehicle. However, it may need to be activated by pushing a button if you’re driving another make. Also, note that this system will not go off if you’re using your turn signal.
