With that said, we’d like to tell you a little bit about how to find and fix short circuits in your vehicle.

How to Test and Fix a Short Circuit in Your Vehicle

Testing a short circuit can be dangerous, so here’s a way to do it safely. The first thing you’re going to want to do is remove the burned fuse. Next, locate a single filament sealed beam headlight unit, and attach a few extension leads to the bulb terminals. Then, install wire ends that are the same size as the fuse blades at the other end of the test lead. Subsequently, you’re going to plug the sealed beam leads into the fuse terminals in place of a new fuse. After that, you’re free to actually turn the circuit on, and start looking for the short. Once found, you either wrap the exposed wire with layers of electrical tape to seal the bare wire, or you may cut the wire where its shorted out and install a connector that has male and female connectors. Here, you can crimp the connectors onto the two sides of the shorting wire. Then, attach the wire and monitor the circuit with the circuit tester. Monitor the tester as you replace the fuse and make sure to test the circuit again.
