“Siri, Start My Honda.”
Siri might soon be jumping into Honda Accord models. Through a partnership with Apple, Honda is planning to give drivers the option to integrate their iPhone with their Accord and access Siri voice functions while driving. To properly integrate, iPhones will have to be equipped with iOS 6. And while we doubt that Siri will be able to start your car for you (for now), she’ll definitely be a huge help to Honda drivers.
When I first got my iPhone, I found myself using Siri for everything, sometimes because it made tasks easier, but often because I was enthralled by the novelty of it. I use Siri less often now, being able to access my phone just as quickly using the touchscreen pretty much all the time. Except when I’m driving. Getting behind the wheel though drastically limits your ability to interact with your phone. Siri integration will allow drivers to focus completely on the road while accessing many of the features on their phones. The integration will also turn the screen off, saving drivers from any added visual distraction.integrate their iPhone with their Accord and access Siri voice functions while driving. We expect that drivers will be able to access commands like handsfree calling, music streaming including popular features like Pandora and podcasts, and of course, navigation. With your custom settings on your iPhone you should also be able to access your calendar, reminders, and contact information, all while driving, and just with your voice.
Here’s a list of additional Siri commands we would love to see integrated into the Accord:
- • “Siri, drive my car around the block a few times to warm it up. I hate climbing into a cold car.”
- • “Siri, go get gas for me while I finish dinner.”
- • “Siri, go pick up my kids.”
- • “Siri, text a polite warning message to the guy a) driving too slowly in front of me -or- b) tailgating within a foot of my bumper.”
While we can all joke about Siri’s potential for comedy, the addition of voice recognition to Honda’s technology suite is a huge step. Siri is arguably one of the best pieces of software of its kind, and tied to a large company like Apple, you can be sure that development will be anything but stagnant.
We’re not quite sure when Siri will be sitting in the passenger seat, but it should be a big announcement. When it does arrive, you’ll be able to find it at Middletown Honda along with a large selection of new and certified pre-owned vehicles!
